The Paulding County GOP is pleased to announce Daniel Caro as this year’s recipient of the annual Young Conservative Scholar Award. Daniel’s essay on the connection between the First Amendment and personal freedom also earned him the $500 scholarship that comes with the title of Young Conservative Scholar.

“Daniel’s academic excellence, as well as his demonstrated commitment to helping those in need, exemplifies the leadership qualities we hope to foster with this scholarship,” says PCGOP Chairman Joseph Gullett.

“Daniel’s essay on the importance of the First Amendment as it relates to individual liberty showed us that he is a young man who has given thoughtful consideration to the meaning of the constitution in our daily lives,” Gullett adds.

Caro, who is headed to Georgia Tech this fall, has been a star student throughout his high school career. A dynamic young man with a wide range of interests, Caro lettered in high school tennis while also participating in organizations such as DECA, BETA Club and the Spanish Honor Society. In addition to this full schedule of school and extracurricular activities, Caro has remained actively involved in his church, including mission trips to Peru and Brazil.

The Young Conservative Scholar Award is an annual $500 scholarship presented by the Paulding County GOP. Paulding county high school seniors vie for the award through an essay contest designed to get our community’s young minds contemplating the role of the constitution in their daily lives.

This year’s Young Conservative Scholar Award was made possible through generous donations from Sherriff Gary Gulledge, Commission Chairman David Austin, Tax Commissioner Bill Watson, Post 1 Commissioner Larry Ragsdale, State Representative Bill Hembree, State House District 66 candidate Mickey Thompson, State House District 66 candidate Bob Snelling, State Senate District 31 candidate Bill Carruth, and PCGOP members Jason Anavitarte, Albert and Lydia Hallmark and Jack and Robyn Howard. In addition, artist Angela Trenchik from Houston County donated a collection of GOP-themed accessories for ongoing sales that raised funds for the scholarship.

“The Young Conservative Scholar Award wouldn’t be possible without the incredible generosity of these elected officials and active party members,” says Gullett. “The commitment to education and community enrichment that these Republicans have shown is a great source of pride for the Paulding County GOP.”

For further information about the Young Conservative Scholar Award, or to learn more about the Paulding County Republican Party, contact Chairman Joseph Gullett at info [at] pauldingrepublicans [dot] org or by phone at 770-4443-1648. The Paulding County GOP meets the third Saturday of each month at 9am. Guests and new members are welcomed and encouraged to attend.

Paulding County’s Precinct Mass Meeting will be held on February 18th, 2012, beginning at 10 AM, sharp. Registration opens at 9 AM, and prospective attendees are encouraged to arrive early in order to be seated by the beginning of the mass meetings. In Paulding County, we’ll hold combined mass meetings for all precincts at Mt. Tabor Park located at 1550 East Paulding Drive in Dallas.

Precinct mass meetings in Presidential election years are held to select delegates and alternates to the County Convention in March. Each precinct is assigned a number of delegates to the County Convention, based on the percentage of the vote in that precinct for the Republican presidential candidate in the previous election. An equal number of alternates may be selected. Only those delegates selected at the mass meeting are eligible to vote at the County Convention.

Mass Meetings FAQ

What should I bring to the Mass Meeting?

To speed registration, please bring photo ID. If you registered to vote or changed your registration after January 1, 2012, bring your voter registration card showing the precinct in which you are registered. If you don’t have your voter registration card, bring a printout of the information from the Secretary of State’s website showing your precinct.

What if I can’t attend the Mass Meeting but still want to be a delegate at the convention?

You may have someone else who is attending your precinct’s Mass Meeting nominate you as a delegate, however those attending the meeting have first priority over those not in attendance. If someone else will be representing you at your precinct’s mass meeting, make sure that person brings your contact information to the meeting so you will be properly registered.

What happens if no one shows up from my precinct?

In that case, no one representing that precinct will be eligible to vote at the convention.

My precinct has more delegate and alternate seats at the convention than attended the mass meeting. What should I do?

In many cases, there will not be enough people attending from your precinct to completely fill the number of delegate and alternate openings. If someone from your precinct has asked to be a delegate, you can add them to the list.

In the interest of providing Republican candidates with a simple but effective way to share their message with voters, and in the interest of providing our members with tools for making an informed vote, the Paulding County GOP is pleased to announce a brand new feature of our website: The Candidates’ Stump.

What it is:

The Candidates’ Stump provides Republican candidates with an opportunity to publish a written summary of their campaign platform. Essentially, the Candidates’ Stump is an online version of the introductory speech a candidate would make at a monthly business meeting. Tell the PCGOP membership who you are, what you stand for and what you plan to do if elected. Our members benefit by learning more about you as a candidate, and you benefit from an opportunity to reach the entirety of the PCGOP membership.

We hope that the Candidates’ Stump will prove to be a valuable resource for both candidates and voters. The Candidates’ Stump is not intended to be a substitute for a campaign website, but rather to serve as a centralized source of information that members of the PCGOP can review as they determine which candidates to vote for in the 2012 Republican primaries.

Who can participate:

Any candidate who will be on a Paulding County Republican ballot for the 2012 primaries.

How to participate:

Statements for the Candidate’s Stump should be emailed to info [at] pauldingrepublicans [dot] org in the form of a word document(.doc) or text file(.txt). No PDF files or images with the information will be accepted.

Guidelines:

Please limit your statement to 750 words or less. Please include a picture of yourself that can be posted alongside your statement. We recommend that you include some type of contact information for readers who want to ask questions, learn more or volunteer for your campaign.

Your statement may include a call for volunteers, but please refrain from using the Candidates’ Stump for soliciting donations.

While we do not question the integrity and strong moral fiber of our party’s candidates, we do want to state for the record that no personal attacks of any kind will be published. We trust that the candidates who choose to participate will maintain a positive tone. Appropriate content for your platform statement includes biographical information, relevant experience and an overview of your position on the issues. If you have any questions about what is or is not appropriate for the Candidates’ Stump, please do not hesitate to ask.

Important information about how the Candidates’ Stump works:

Statements will be posted in the order in which they are received. The Candidates’ Stump is a service being offered, free of charge, to all Republican candidates whose constituency falls, in whole or in part, within the boundaries of Paulding County. Participation is strictly voluntarily, and the appearance of a candidate’s statement should not be construed as an official or unofficial endorsement of any kind on the part of the PCGOP. Likewise, the lack of a statement should not be construed as lack of endorsement or personal exclusion.

The publication of a statement should not be construed as an expression of the party’s views or opinions. The content of a statement solely represents the views of that particular candidate and is not an indication of the approval or affirmation of the Paulding County Republican Party, its officers and/or its members.
